can. We also understand that committing to and following through
with health goals can be challenging. That’s why we take a holistic approach
to attaining optimal health. We understand that our health depends
on taking care of our physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

From Knowledge to Conviction – My Personal Experience in
the Mind-Body Connection
I founded The Center for Optimal Health to bring the synergy of
Integrative Holistic Medicine to our patients and our community.
Multiple times daily I advise our patients on the importance of
taking care of ourselves with a whole-person approach. Yet somehow
I fell into the same trap that many of our patients are in – the
taking care of everyone and everything before ME! I would like
to be able to model a healthy balance rather than just tell all
of you what to do! Let me share with you how in the last few months
my knowledge has become my personal conviction!

Memory
With the weather starting to warm up and with spring peeking around
the corner, many are reaffirming their New Year’s resolution
to get in shape, physically, emotionally and financially. Unfortunately,
although the days are getting longer, it seems there still isn’t
enough time to fit everything in a 24 hour day. We feel it is important
to remind our readers at this time that stress and sleep deprivation
play a large role in the depletion of our health.

Nike Got It Right…Just Do It
What is it about knowing what’s good for us, and actually
doing it. Generally we know what to do to be healthier and happier,
we just aren’t doing it. Don’t feel bad, even professional
athletes complain about working out, and that’s what they
do for a living. The cure for not doing it is, “Just do it”.
Surveys of individuals that are successful at making positive changes
in their life indicate that they dedicate themselves to the new
behavior and do it…regardless of the little voice in their
head that says, “Do it later.”

How to Escape The Viscous Cycle of Inactivity
Whether you haven’t exercised for a year, a month or since
you were 18 it’s hard to get out of that viscous cycle of
inactivity. We all know that exercise is good for us (mentally
and physically),” but” it takes time and energy. Unfortunately,
time and energy are hot commodities these days. Whether you
are a busy corporate executive with a demanding schedule or a busy
parent running kids between school events, sporting activities
and classes it is a daunting challenge to squeeze in 60 or even
30 minutes of exercise.

Eat Mindfully to Avoid Overeating
The breakneck pace of our society has lead many people to disconnect
from their physical and emotional needs. Mindfulness is simply
the moment-by-moment awareness of life. But it’s not always
so simple. We so easily get caught up in our own thoughts and self-talk
that we are scarcely aware of life as it passes us by. This is
very true of our eating. We eat meal after meal, snack after snack,
barely aware of what we’re eating and how much we’re
consuming. Often times we are so busy that we may not eat all day.
This routine often leads to overeating later on in the day. Practicing
mindful eating promotes balance, choice, wisdom and acceptance
of our needs.
